New Mortal Kombat, Goriest Ever!
Following the internet buzz surrounding the Mortal Kombat short film released on Tuesday, Ed Boon – original creator of the franchise – has officially announced the latest installment into the series of games. Warner Brothers interactive, who now own the rights to the Mortal Kombat games, has said the game will be a new 2D engine – probably taking a hint from the success of Streetfighter IV.
After the toning-down of the series with Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe in order to meet the requests of DC that it be a teen-friendly release, creator Boon is promising a return to the harder edge of the early games in the series. “This game really is a response to what players have been demanding; mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”
Details were also released of the inclusion of a new game mode – 2-on-2 “tag” battles, with support for up to four players in teams – as well as a new, improved, “deeper” story mode and classic 1-on-1 fighting.
The game will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011.
