Dishonored: The Tales of Dunwall, Episode 3: In the Mind of Madness
Bethesda have released the third and final episode of The Tales of Dunwall, a collection of hand-drawn animated shorts revealing the history of Dishonored’s embattled, plague-ridden city. Following a man named Pierre through his descent into insanity, In the Mind of Madness links directly into the events of Dishonored by showing the creation of Corvo’s iconic clockwork skull mask.
Whether Pierre will appear in the finished game or not, we don’t know, but there is a good chance the creator of the mask will at least be referenced – and is the shadowy entity who leads him to create the mask in fact the mysterious Outsider? All will be revealed when the game launches, of course, and for now we can only speculate, but it seems fairly certain that the Outsider has a nefarious agenda of his own…
With these three shorts (including part one, The Awakening and part two, The Hand That Feeds), animators Psyops have weaved a compelling, unsettling backstory to one of the year’s most anticipated games, and the eloquent voice over by Chloe Grace Mortez adds a chilling slant to the already uninviting city of Dunwall.
Dishonored is being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda. It is scheduled to launch in North America on October 9th and across Europe on October 12th.
