The Last of Us Extended Gameplay Demo Unveiled at PAX
2013 is already looking like the Golden Year for console gamers, with a frankly ridiculous number of high-quality, big-budget triple-A titles inbound – not least Sony and Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic survival horror, The Last of Us.
After originally announcing the game way back around Christmas, Sony have been characteristically generous with screens, trailers and gameplay demos, though annoyingly tight-lipped over story and character details. This fifteen minute (yes, fifteen minute) demo shown at PAX doesn’t really change that, though it does shed light on some important gameplay elements.
In an extended version of the seven minute demo previously shown at E3 in June, Naughty Dog give us a better insight into how you’ll need to think on your feet to survive, choosing whether to go in stealthily or fists and feet flying, which resources to use up and which to save for later, and how primary protagonist Joel interacts with his teenage ward, Ellie, to work together in fraught situations. You’ll also see a little bit more on the incredibly dynamic combat and AI that reacts to the “balance of power”. If this is how good The Last of Us looks when Joel and Ellie are only dealing with other survivors, we can’t wait to see what the infected can do. Check out the extended demo below.
The Last of Us is a Sony exclusive, and is expected to arrive in Q1 of 2013.
