Nintendo Focusing on Next-Gen Handheld, Unlikely to Release a New 3DS
Waiting for Nintendo to release an updated version of the 3DS before you drop the cash? You may want to reconsider as Shigeru Miyamoto says they’re focusing on the next-generation of handhelds.
Nintendo has a long and successful history when it comes to releasing different versions of the same handheld, GameBoy – GameBoy Pocket, Advance – SP, and of course DS – Lite, DSi, DSi XL. However when speaking to IGN, Miyamoto suggested Nintendo had no such plans for the 3DS.
I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation. What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld.
Of course just because Nintendo are focusing on the future doesn’t mean a new 3DS is totally out of the question. The final version of the DS, the DSi XL released barely a year before the 3DS hit shop shelves.
