Multiplayer Officially Confirmed for Mass Effect 3
After being rumoured for some time, BioWare’s has confirmed in a tweet that its upcoming title Mass Effect 3 will definitely have a multiplayer option. The tweet said: “ME3 will have a multiplayer option – we’ll have more details in the coming days that will address your concerns!”
Prior to the tweet, the news came from Australian magazine PC PowerPlay, which has the Mass Effect 3 news as its next cover story.
Mass Effect 3 will be the first game in the widely popular series to have multiplayer, and is something fans have been crying out for BioWare and Electronic Arts to include in the third installment.
While some fans have been crying out for multiplayer, there are a lot of people who aren’t happy about the news. BioWare is clearly adding multiplayer to enhance the game’s content, but some people think the game will be fine just without it. Yes, Mass Effect’s single player is enough to keep many happy, but it would be wise to wait until BioWare announces the official details of what the multiplayer will entail.
If BioWare comes up with Standard Team Deathmatch fare, then I can understand why there will be cause for concern. A game such as Mass Effect deserves more attention than that if it is going to go multiplayer, and there is no current evidence to suggest it won’t have some interesting features. It might be worth waiting to see what modes are included before we all get carried away and denounce our love for the franchise.
Mass Effect 3 is due to be released on March 9, 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
