Shin Megami Tensei Fans Rejoice: Several New Persona Games in the Works
In the same way that there was a director’s cut of sorts for Persona 3, made available on the PSP some time after the initial release of the game, Atlus have announced that a reworked version of Persona 4 will be coming to the PlayStation VITA, and it will be entitledPersona 4: The Golden. The game will have a whole new playable character included – as was the case with Persona 3 Portable, as well as added dialogue and new in-game elements. Add to that 3G and Wi-Fi support (multiplayer Persona?) new cutscenes and and a brand-new opening anime, and the game is looking packed with new features to attract both new and returning fans.
Players will also be able to call on other players to come and aid them when they are close to death in battle, there are going to be a selection of extra Personas you will be able to summon to fight for you and even some new outfits to try on. The game is due for release in Spring 2012.
On top of that though, Atlus have also added that they are working with Arc System Works – the developers of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear – on a figthing game, set in the Persona world. It will be a 2D fighting game, titled Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena (what a mouthful). The game will be set two months after the events of Persona 4, but will feature playable fighters from both Persona 3 and 4, each with their own stories and motivations. The game is expected to launch in Japanese arcades in spring 2012, and later on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in summer 2012.
And as if all that Persona goodness wasn’t enough, Atlus confirmed that initial development prep on Persona 5 is all finished, and the game is ready to enter full-on production – with an all-new engine. They do, however, stress that the game will not be ready for quite a long time, and that there are still no confirmed plans regarding what platforms the game will find itself on when it is finally released.
Persona 4: The Golden will be released in Japan in Spring 2012.
