Twisted Pixel’s Free DLC Plans For Ms. Splosion Man

by on July 13, 2011

Twisted Pixel can do no wrong in the eyes of the GodisaGeek team a the moment – what with their latest title, Ms. Splosion Man getting a resounding 10/10 in our recent review. Well just to add to that fuzzy feeling we hold for them, the development team have now announced that they are planning a handful of downloadable updates for the game via Xbox LIVE, which will also be completely free! They have gone against the grain, as generally Microsoft don’t allow free DLC, but in this case, the team plan to release the updates across an area of Xbox LIVE that allows developers to add small amounts of data to the game, rather than full-on add-ons.

The idea behind this is that – much like Valve currently do with weekly “Mutations” in Left 4 Dead 2 – Twisted Pixel will release the free content in the form of small changes to the title, where new challenges set within the existing modes and stages will be run, as special modifiers and rules are applied to add variety to the game. These will run for a week each and add new leaderboards, specific to that particular challenge – perhaps even with prizes for the top competitors, as evidenced by the comments of Jay Stuckwisch, Marketing Director at Twisted Pixel; “From time to time, we will be awarding real prizes and other fun stuff to the top finishers, and sometimes random players, from the Challenge’s leaderboards… We are finding it harder and harder to ‘one up’ ourselves with new ways of giving away free stuff to people who buy our games, but TMS has opened an exciting new door for us.”

Team Meat used this same method of utilising the free storage space on Xbox LIVE, when they would periodically release a few new levels here or there, rather than large map packs or new modes. The official website of the game, MsSplosionMan.com has launched today as well, which will allow players to grab a free downloadable copy of the soundtrack to the game, for one thing.

Ms. Splosion Man is out now on Xbox 360, priced at 800 Microsoft Points.
