Iwata Confirms: No DVD Or Blu-Ray For Wii U
Given the seemingly endless possibilities offered by Nintendo’s forthcoming new addition to the console race, it comes as something of surprise to learn that the all-singing, all-dancing Wii U will not come with DVD or Blu-Ray playback as standard.
This decision was announced by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata at an investor Q&A which is available on the Nintendo website in English.
Iwata argues that we probably have enough devices that can play DVDs and suchlike, and seems to imply that by omitting it from this new box of tricks Ninty can keep the price down.
