Ubisoft Reveal Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 At E3

by on June 9, 2011

Ubisoft and Gearbox Software have long worked together on the Brothers In Arms franchise of realistic, military shooters. This year at E3, Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford took the stage to announce their intention to take the well-loved series in a different direction. Set during their familiar stomping ground of World War II, the new game – entitled Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 – features over-the-top action and caricatured characters. The video shows scenes that wouldn’t have looked out of place in Tarantino’s wartime film, Inglourious Basterds. Focused on a squad of four misfit soldiers; Crockett – a Cowboy type, Stitch – the livewire of the group, Chok – a small, athletic melee weapons specialist and Montana – the Heavy Weapons man.

A section of Brothers In Arms fans have already spoken out against the game, it having abandoned the authenticity, realism, military tactics, brotherhood and true stories that made the series popular, for an arcade style, with over-the-top action. It is yet to be seen whether this is a wise move or not – as Gearbox would obviously have a hard time competing with the realism that games such as Modern Warfare and Medal Of Honour offer.

Watch the video below and judge for yourself whether you like the new direction in which Gearbox are taking the series:

Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 is due for release sometime in 2012 and will be available for Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For more coverage of the entire Ubisoft conference, please see our round-up article here: Ubisoft.
