London 2012 Olympics Game Coming From SEGA

by on June 1, 2011

When Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games was announced earlier in the year, many people pointed to the huge success of the previous Beijing olympics effort and saw that it didn’t take a rocket scientist to see it would be a smart release. However, SEGA have now announced that they also plan to release another London 2012 Olympics game, being the straight-laced alternative to the craziness on offer in the Mario & Sonic effort. SEGA did do the same for the 2008 Olympic Games, but the serious offering was much less successful than its character-filled counterpart.

The Mario & Sonic version is only due to be released on the Nintendo consoles, so the release of both games is obviously an effort to bring an Olympic gaming title to all gamers, irrespective of what platform they play on. Such tack and field games haven’t been received well in the current generation, but these button-mashing affairs always did well in the 16 and 32-bit era. Perhaps the latest incarnation will make use of Kinect on Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 Move controllers, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games is due to be released 2012 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is also planned for release in time for the 2012 games on Nintendo Wii and 3DS.
