Sky And Nintendo Team Up For Special 3D Event
As we move ever closer to a world where everything will be in 3D, and you will be able to download a holographic girlfriend off the internets, telly and all round media behemoths Sky have teamed up with Nintendo to mark the launch of the fabulous 3DS with a bumper entertainment show that will be broadcast live on the box tomorrow night. As always, God Is A Geek is your hook-up with the lowdown……
To mark the UK launch of Nintendo’s 3DS, the new portable 3D entertainment device, a special event – Nintendo 3DS Ignition – featuring live comedy and music will be broadcast this Friday (25th March) on Sky 3D, Europe’s first 3D TV channel.
The VIP event, which will take place at London’s Old Billingsgate, will feature performances by comedian Russell Kane, BRIT award winner Plan B and rock band Hadouken.
The event itself will be attended by 2,000 members of Nintendo UK’s loyalty program ‘Club Nintendo’, and will take place at midnight on 25th March to coincide with the retail launch of the Nintendo 3DS. The event will be broadcast on Sky 3D that evening, and also broadcast in High Definition on Sky 1 HD.
In January 2011 Sky confirmed that it would supply taster 3D content to the Nintendo 3DS. Under the terms of the deal, Sky will supply short-form 3D content from across sports, entertainment and documentaries to help generate awareness of Sky 3D, and illustrate the 3D capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS.
Graham Appleby, Director of Commercial Partnerships at Sky Media, comments:
“We’re delighted to extend our relationship with Nintendo to help build their own 3D association whilst providing our customers with yet more high-quality entertainment content on Sky 3D. This is yet another example of innovation from Sky responding to the demands of customers and brands alike.”
Dawn Paine, Marketing Director, Nintendo UK, adds:
“Nintendo 3DS Ignition is not only a games industry first but marks the arrival of portable, glasses-free 3D gaming and entertainment. The opportunity to work with Sky to broadcast the event in 3D offers the perfect synergy in terms of helping building our credentials and bringing 3D to as many people as possible.”
The Nintendo 3DS Console Is Released Friday 25th March 2011.
