3DS Sets New Pre-Order Record At Amazon.co.uk
Amazon.co.uk has today announced that the Nintendo 3DS has now become the most pre-ordered console of all-time on their website. It overtakes the previous record which was held by the PlayStation 3 when it launched back in March 2007.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, with a week to go until it is officially launched in Europe, Nintendo’s new handheld currently has 20% more pre-orders than the PlayStation 3 managed by its release date and 56% more than the Wii, which graced us with its presence back in December 2006.
Chris Poad, Director of Video Games at Amazon.co.uk Ltd, had this to say regarding the matter:
“It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch, such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the ground-breaking Nintendo Wii and last year’s Microsoft Kinect. Nintendo 3DS is launching at a time when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high and with the promise of real 3D graphics without glasses, it’s a real breakthrough in handheld video game entertainment.”
Interestingly enough, Amazon.co.uk also revealed that the 3DS has beaten pre-order numbers achieved by any other DS console. Believe it or not, the 3D enabled handheld has managed to rack up 255% more pre-orders than the DSi managed in April 2009.
