Red Faction: Armageddon – Ruin & Infestation Preview
Red Faction: Armageddon will be available soon and as already mentioned in our single player hands-on preview, the GodisaGeek team attended a Press event in March which allowed us to get a good look at this highly anticipated title. We can now tell you about some of the extra features available to the next step in the Red Faction saga.
There are two new modes that you will be able to play for this title and as always, GodisaGeek has you covered! Destruction and chaos ahoy!
The first of the two extra modes available is called Ruin Mode, and the aim of this fun packed mode is basically to destroy absolutely everything in front of you. There are no enemies to face, just loads of buildings and structures that are begging to be demolished with whatever you have in your arsenal. At first, you have one minute to cause as much chaos as you can, but if you should reach the preset “Par” score, you will obtain an extra 30 seconds to up your score. The faster you destroy the buildings, the higher your multiplier will climb, allowing your points tally to sky rocket. With the likes of the Nano-rifle, which fires lots of microscopic nanobots and will eat away at small parts of a structure in seconds, and a Warp continuity weapon, which essentially creates a miniature black hole and sucks in whatever is close to it, there are plenty of interesting and fun ways to trash the level you are in, and no shortage of weapons to utilise when doing so!
Ruin mode is very addictive to play. During the hour we got to play it, the event turned into a competitive tournament, with people hitting scores of 20 million, I even managed a 19.5 million! If it had gone on any longer, it could have started our own personal Ruin mode in the middle of London!
The other mode we played is known as Infestation Mode, and this is a four player multiplayer experience which is essentially Gears of War Horde mode. At first, the enemies come in at an easy pace and you can deal with them comfortably. But from then on it gets very, VERY hectic. The enemies come in thick and fast and the arenas are quite claustrophobic, which will leave you with little time to think, and makes for an extremely intense experience. To make things even more interesting, you can be revived by your team mates, but you only have a certain amount of lives! So you need to make all of your shots count.
Once the wave ends however, you will gain all your lives back allowing you to continue, but you need to try and avoid losing your lives to ensure you maintain a high level of scoring. Thankfully you will be well armed with the weapons that you have in the single player, including the Magnet Gun, which is great fun once you utilise its full potential.
Infestation Mode looks to be a very intense and challenging way to play with your friends and a good edition to Red Faction: Armageddon. Along with Ruin Mode it certainly makes this title look interesting.
Red Faction: Armageddon is due out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on the 3rd of June. You can read our single player hands-on experience by clicking here.
