With Black Ops 4 just around the corner, the Call of Duty World League (CWL) has announced its plans for the new season, featuring Activision’s latest behemoth. The upcoming season will feature 5v5 team play; single season CWL Pro League format; a dedicated amateur circuit with its own prizes; plus the biggest overall purse in the history of CWL, coming in at a whopping $6 million.
“With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the Call of Duty World League is poised to have its most exciting and biggest season yet. Beginning in Las Vegas and continuing throughout 2019, CWL fans can expect the best players from around the world to battle even harder to be crowned Call of Duty World League Champion,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager of Call of Duty, Rob Kostich. “This season brings a ton of new storylines, including the move to five vs. five in CWL. We’re excited for this opportunity and we’re supporting it with the largest prizing in our history of $6 million. Call of Duty:Black Ops 4 is tailor-made for intense competition at all levels – pro and amateur – and with this move we’re ensuring that the game you play, is the game you see this season with the CWL.”
The first high-profile LAN competition is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, from December 7th-9th. After that, the CWL Pro League competition will begin in February 2019, with a single season over twelve weeks. In August 2019, the CWL Championship will round out the season with the best players in the world competing for the title of CWL Champion, plus a large slice of the prizing.
Amateurs will have their own fight, competing through Challengers, a dedicated amateur circuit played in CWL LAN events throughout 2019. The result of these competitions will see the best teams competing for a place in the inaugural Challengers playoffs.
Exciting times ahead for eSports fans and pros alike, especially if you happen to enjoy Call of Duty.
