Sony just announced that system software 4.50 for PlayStation 4 would be available tomorrow.
There’s a lot to like in this update even for regular PlayStation 4 owners. External HDD support is finally available and me postponing my hard drive upgrade has sort of paid off. The hard drives you can use need to be USB 3.0 and later and also be between 250 GB and 8 TB.
The highlight feature in addition to external HDD support is Boost Mode for PlayStation 4 Pro owners. This will allow some older games without Pro support to run better. Digital Foundry has a nice video showcasing Boost Mode.
PS VR will support Blu-Ray 3D discs in stereoscopic 3D with 4.50 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. You can now also use your own wallpaper on your main dashboard on PS4 instead of a custom theme just like Xbox One. More details about 4.50 are available here.
The update is set to be available tomorrow.
