New Final Fantasy XIV expansion to be announced in October

by on June 27, 2016

Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida has announced that a new expansion for the RPG will be announced this October at the game’s Fan Festival, taking place in Las Vegas.

Speaking to Japanese outlet Game Watch and translated by Siliconera, Yoshida was asked if we’d see patch 4.0 being announced at Fan Festival this year. He responded: “That’s right. This is a game that is supported by many players, so we’d like to share the biggest news together with the fans at the Fan Festival meetings.”

As well as confirming the upcoming expansion, Yoshida also discussed the patches which will arrive prior to the announcement, specifically patch 3.5: “I believe that we’ll see the big changes starting with Patch 3.5. Similar to what we had in Patch 2.5 and 2.55, which I believe was a big pivot.” Game Watch asked how long the 3.X series plans to run for, and Yoshida confirmed there is no plans for continuing after the 3.5 patch.

When asked what the patches meant for the story, Yoshida responded: “Since there’d be spoilers, I can’t say anything about the story, but we’ll see more on it during Fan Festival announcements, and in a way through the main story.”

Thanks, VG24/7.
