Gamescom in Germany is certainly growing in renown worldwide – with more developers not only making the effort to take their games to the show, but also revealing new details and keeping surprise announcements for the European game show. Konami are certainly doing that this year – promising exclusive updates for two of their biggest franchises in Cologne.
Firstly, they will be showing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, where not only will it be present at the show, but also new details have been promised to be announced at Gamescom – ones that will “cement(ing) its reputation as the most extensive and ambitious Metal Gear Solid ever,” according to Konami themselves.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 however, will not only be shown on the floor of the games show, but will also be playable on next-generation consoles for the first time ever at a large public event – letting gamers get hands-on with the new Fox engine in all its glory.
With Konami taking Gamescom very seriously this year, we can only hope that many more developers and publishers will follow suit – and help take the biggest European games show a little closer to the likes of E3.
If I'm not playing on a good Adventure Game - still longing for the long-past Golden Age of the genre, when Lucasarts and Sierra ruled supreme - you might find me searching for a local arcade, in the hopes that it still houses titles such as Sunset Riders or WindJammers.
