A mod-verified NeoGAF member has suggested that Sony’s PlayStation 4 could be released as early as October 21.
User Nealand Liquor claims to come from a retail background and be in the know regarding the next gen console’s release.
His post, reported on by Now Gamer, reads: “Our internal product release schedule from head office dropped yesterday and on Oct 21st an unnamed Sony console will be launched.
“FYI all console revisions like the ps360 slims and Wii Mini were listed as ps360 & wii mini. Previously the Wii U, 3DS and Vita were also only listed as Nintendo/Sony Console in the product name column.”
Being mod-verified means that the user is indeed from a “very large retailer” as he claims to be, lending some credence to his claims.
Nealand Liquor went on to point out that “if the launch date for a product is unknown, it’s simply marked TBA. The only time a date is ever included is when we have received confirmation of said date from the product company.”
GAF user Guevara commented soon after that the timing of the release would be particularly clever, not just because it would be ahead of whenever Xbox One’s release falls in November, but because it would give them a whole month of sales before Black Friday – the biggest shopping day of America’s Christmas buying period.
Of course this comes from an American user and could only be speculative of an American release date, we’ll just have to see if this is true first at all and secondly of a worldwide release window.
Sony’s press conference at GamesCom takes place next Tuesday, August 20, and it is widely expected that they will announce a release date.
