UK Supermarket chain Asda has said that it will no longer stock Wii U hardware and software in its 555 stores in the UK – thanks to CVG for bringing this to our attention. Considering that Asda is the second largest chain in the United Kingdom, this is a massive blow for Nintendo.
Although the retail outlet has said that they will not be selling Wii U items in-store, Asda customers can purchase a very limited range of Wii U related things through Asda Direct (the supermarket’s online store).
“Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops.”
Even with the great scores and general fanfare, Pikmin 3 still couldn’t beat Minecraft to the top spot on this week’s charts. Some people are convinced that with Smash Bros., Mario Kart and Mario 3D World, the console will get back on track – it’s just a shame that two out of three of those aforementioned games won’t be out until next year.
Asda haven’t stated that they will never stock a Wii U game again, of course, but it’s still worrying for the console, at this time.
