Maybe I’m only fooling myself, but I can’t help but get a little bit excited about a new game from the quick rodent. As a Sonic fan from a very young age and growing up in that golden Mega Drive/Genesis era, it’s painful to see what has happened to the Blue Blur. Other than last year’s terrific Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and the great Sonic Generations, recent entries have been poor, or worse.
Thanks to VG247, we’ve seen that there is a possibility we’ll see a new Sonic The Hedgehog game, this November. A 3D game codenamed Sonic Excursion is apparently due to come to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U & 3DS, PC, PlayStation 4 and something called Xbox Infinite – previously, there were reports that Microsoft’s next-gen system would be called “Infinity”.
Apparently there is no major difference between the different system versions, other than the fact that the PS4, XI and PC will have higher resolutions. The 3DS game will also be created by a different team.
Someone who goes by the name of Wentos on forum SegaBits is the person who is getting this information and his track-record is supposed to be rather decent. However, don’t treat this as fact, just yet.
“This past weekend I was able to watch a couple of demonstrations on Sonic Team’s upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog game, currently titled “Sonic Excursion.” In all they had two levels to show off which all four of the playable characters the story will focus on were able to play through.
The first level is called “Shattered Heights” and is similar to the Sonic Generations incarnation of Speed Highway. Very New York themed. We were told the level was five minutes long, but they spent about fifteen minutes showing us parts of the stage’s design, focusing on the lighting and shadows and how lighting was one of the main focuses for this game’s design”.
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Eggman are all said to make an appearance in the game, with certain areas only accessible to specific characters.
