During his interview on GameTrailers TV, Joakim Mogren revealed very little on his studio’s first project. The only thing we are sure of now is that the game will be running on the FOX engine and we’ll see something at GDC, but details are still scarce.
The most recent thing to surface on this supposed game is a video which was posted on GameTrailers by user JoakimMogren – which we saw thanks to TheGamingLiberty.
We must preface this by saying that there is a possibility that this is someone posing as the CEO of Moby Dick Studio, but there is some evidence in here that points to it being another legit publicity stunt by Kojima and co.
The one minute teaser shows, what appears to be, scientists carefully handling something. The sound playing over the laboratory images is morse code. In the comments section of the GameTrailers hosted clip, someone has apparently cracked that code;
GENERATING IMAGE HOLD SCENARIO – LOADING HOLD – ACTIVATING PHANTOM PAIN DOT MEME HOLD – ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR
At approximately the 40 second mark, an image briefly pops up on the screen and it contains a very obvious Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes reference. The image, which you can see below, includes the following text;
PROJECT OMEGA AI MATRIX: SECTOR07-A942 VR PROGRAM: PHANTOM_PAIN.MME CONTRACTOR: MOBY DICK STUDIOS SUBJECT: REDACTED
PURPOSE- TREATMENT OF NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE SUSTAINED IN COMBAT SITUATIONS TREATMENT OF COMBAT RELATED PSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS ENHANCEMENT OF COMBAT ABILITIES FOLLOWING IMPAIRMENT IMPLEMENTATION OF ..::.|>..::.:
Obviously, the mention of a “VR Program” is very reminiscent of the MGS series. “PROJECT OMEGA” could possibly be a nod to Camp Omega – which we saw in the MGS: Ground Zeroes debut trailer.
What do you think, dear readers? Are we looking at one of the best marketing campaigns ever seen for a video game, or is Kojima missing the mark with this Phantom Pain lark? Let us know in the comments section, below.
How's things? I'm the video guy and would love if you'd watch the things I do like Debatable and For Your Amusement. I spend the majority of my days explaining why The Wire is the greatest TV show ever and clamouring for a Pop-Punk revival(c. 1994) whilst singing in my best Axl Rose-esque voice. Do not say professional wrestling is “fake” around me or, he’ll bore you with, what I like to call, “the risks they take”. Henrik Larsson is my hero.
