Heavy Rain DLC Going Down The Drain?
In a move that is sure to disappoint many PlayStation 3 owners and Heavy Rain fans, David Cage – writer/director for the game – has announced that due to the fact that their game is being reworked to make use of the PlayStation Move system, the three future downloadable Chronicles episodes for Heavy Rain that were previously promised prior to the release of the retail game, will probably never see the light of day.
The sole Chronicles episode released so far, The Taxidermist, is likely to be the only one that is ever produced. Cage believes that the decision to incorporate Move into the game was down to a request from Sony, whereas he would have preferred to have continued work on the new DLC for the game. The stories for all three were already written and explained more of the backstory for the four main protagonists – with the first episode we have already played focusing on Madison Paige. Cage said, “the stories were very strong and would have been very surprising for all Heavy Rain fans. Sony wanted more AAA adult games to support the Move and they thought that Heavy Rain was the perfect fit.”
He Continued, “Our approach was to make no compromise on the quality of the Chronicles and offer exactly the same quality than the original game. So the answer is yes. Chronicles as we saw them were ambitious and with high expectations. As explained, they are on hold to allow the team to work on Move and on new projects, and I doubt they will ever be produced.” Cage explains he would have preferred to have continued his artistic vision through, completing all of the DLC chapters, but the verdict came down from Sony to work on Move, and he didn’t feel confident to continue working on both projects concurrently.
The updated version of the game was showcased at the PlayStation conference at E3 2010, and will be released at retail later this year and a patch will also be made available to existing owners.
