After setting themselves a target of £150,000 Jagex smashed their target by managing to raise £225,000 just as mental health awareness week begins.

The Runescape developer started its Charitable Giving Initiative last year, and sees a wonderful return on their first 12 months by managing to raise the money for three charities – CPSL Mind, The Prince’s Trust, and YMCA Right Here. This month Jagex also hosted CPSL Mind’s STOP Suicide 2018 campaign which is a community based initiative accross Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolshire and is diretly funded through Jagex’s fund raising efforts.

Jagex are also recognised by Mind in their Workplace Wellbeing Index for promoting staff mental health and achieving impact by improving on their bronze award in 2017 with a silver award this year.

As well as this, Runescape players can buy a baby yeti companion with all proceeds going towards the three charities mentioned earlier.

Director of Customer Support Kelvim Plomer is suitably pleased with the company’s achievements:

We’ve had a remarkable first year for Jagex’s Charitable Giving initiative, and I am so proud of the work that we have supported as well as the funding we have raised for our mental health charities. Raising £225,000 over the past 12 months is a remarkable achievement and I want to thank everybody involved, from our players to everyone at Jagex – this money will make a difference and literally save lives. Jagex, through our charitable strategy, wants to make a real difference to people’s lives, and we are immensely proud to work with our chosen charity partners to help achieve that.

And Alice Turner, the HR Business Partner had this to say about their silver award for the Workplace Wellbeing initiative:

It’s a great privilege for Jagex to be recognised with a Silver Award on Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index 2018, which really shows the dedication our company has to support the mental health of our staff. We felt very humbled to be the first games studio to be recognised in the Index last year, so to see that progression and stand alongside some of the biggest organisations in the country as a Silver Award recipient is testament to the continued progress Jagex has made over the past year.

It’s an excellent achievement, Jagex and their players deserve a considerable amount of kudos for the work they’ve done to promote good mental health initiatives and ensuring we end the stigma around mental health. It’s a really good reminder of the good that can be done in gaming communities.
