Revamped Star Wars: Battlefront II Progression Coming Next Week

by on March 16, 2018

Remember when a few people got really mad about Star Wars: Battlefront II‘s loot boxes and things got a little bit silly? Remember when EA and DICE switched off all the microtransactions to help smooth things over, but people still complained about the whole thing? Well, the promised revamp of the progression system is finally here. Well, it will be next week, anyway.

The Progression Update has seen a complete re-design of the way you earn rewards, which means that Star Cards and any other gameplay-affecting items will no longer be available for purchase, only unlockable via gameplay. You’ll earn experience points for each class, hero or ship, and when they level up you will gain a Skill Point to unlock or upgrade your chosen Star Card.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean your current progress will be wiped, or affected in any way for that matter. Everything you have already unlocked will remain yours.

Crates will no longer be purchasable though, instead they will be earned via daily logins and completing various challenges. In addition, they will no longer contain Star Cards, only cosmetic items such as emotes and victory poses. In other words: nothing that will affect gameplay.

Starting in April, new appearances will begin, erm, appearing and will be available for purchase either with in-game Credits or via Crystals that can be bought with real money. This basically means that there is absolutely no “pay to win” in Battlefront II. That should make a few people happy. Maybe.

On top of all of this, EA and DICE have confirmed that new modes and limited-time events are coming to the game. But for now, you can look forward to the Progression Update when it arrives on March 21st.
