Watch as GT Sport makes cops faster
As you sit and wonder to yourself ‘Who asked for this?’ see this video in which cops improve their car handling thanks to training through GT Sport.
In a scheme from the minds behind GT Academy, several members of the Lincolnshire Police Force recorded a lap time around Silverstone, and then set to a rigorous regime on GT Sport, thanks to PS VR. Data showed several flaws in their techniques which they then set to work on improving. After the session the officers showed marked improvements in their times, with one shaving 5.7 seconds off of their original time. There were also improvements to how they handle safety, braking and steering. Amazing stuff.
Unsurprisingly, Laurence Wiltshire of GT Academy liked to big up their achievements:
GT Academy has proven that the skills learned via Gran Turismo directly transfer from the virtual track on to the real one. This is thanks to the incredibly accurate simulation of the tracks but more importantly the simulation of the cars, their physics and how they handle. GT Sport is the best in the series history and, with the addition of VR mode, offers the most realistic driving simulation yet. It’s one thing to train racing drivers but the idea that a game could help officers respond to emergencies more efficiently is mind-blowing.
Whether the police need to be faster on the roads is one thing, but it’s very promising that they were safer as well. To be honest though, I don’t see the game turning everybody into budding race drivers, not without a seriously killer set up.
After a seemingly endless development cycle Gran Turismo returns with GT Sport this Wednesday October 18.
