Destiny 2 has controller support and “plays great” with one on PC
Mark Noseworthy just confirmed that Destiny 2 will have controller support on PC.
Destiny 2 Project Lead Mark Noseworthy was asked about controller support and aim assist for the PC version. He responded in a Tweet that is below that Destiny 2 plays great with a controller on PC.

Destiny 2 will release on September 8 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version does not have a release date but it will be available on Battle.net (retail and digitally) and not Steam.
