UPDATE: Scalebound has been cancelled

by on January 9, 2017

UPDATE (8:13pm): A statement issued to WindowsCentral by Microsoft has confirmed earlier reports that Scalebound has been cancelled. Eurogamer reported earlier this evening that Microsoft and Platinum’s relationship had soured greatly during development, and that production had ceased on the game before the end of 2016. It appears that this information was entirely true, with Microsoft saying the project was cancelled due to “business decisions”. See the full statement below:

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.

ORIGINAL STORY: Kotaku have reported that Platinum Games’ action-adventure title Scalebound could be about to be cancelled, according to their sources.

Scalebound was set to be published by Microsoft Studios on both Xbox One, but when questioned by Kotaku, the publisher only repsonded saying “We’ll have more to share on ‘Scalebound’ soon”. The game was originally announced during the Xbox press conference of E3 2014, but has been noticeably absent from all recent marketing done by Microsoft and has even been removed from their website.

Developed by PlatinumGames and fronted by Hideki Kamiya, the game has apparently been in turmoil for quite some time now, with the official announcement of cancellation expected to be shared shortly. NeoGAF insider Shinobi claims he heard the same last week. He also tweeted the following:

Thanks, Kotaku.
