While always online, Sony have said that the upcoming intergalactic adventure title No Man’s Sky will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.
GameInformer has reported that a Sony representative responded to their request for comment, saying “PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to be connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas.”
This “universal atlas” allows players to save their progress in the cloud and acts as a sort of leaderboard in which friends can check on each other’s progress. Both Sony and Steam have described the game as a single-player experience despite having a multiplayer element since the chances of bumping into a friend in the expansive universe are virtually nil.
No Man’s Sky releases in the United Kingdom on August 10.
