In a surprise move, Microsoft and cult game designer Swery revealed at the Tokyo Game Show that his latest game D4 (otherwise known as Dark Dreams Don’t Die) will be released on Xbox One tomorrow, on Friday September 19.
Swery – real name Hidetaka Suehiro – is most famous for his gloriously oddball and flawed mystery game Deadly Premonition. D4 looks no less strange, as it appears that his creative juices have not been constrained by working exclusively for Microsoft.
D4 is an adventure game that looks like it takes a lot of ideas from Telltale’s The Walking Dead series. Not only will the gameplay resemble that of TWD, but the game is also being released episodically. Players will be able to control the action with either Kinect or a control pad – whichever they prefer, although Swery says that Kinect is “more fun”.
Tomorrow will see the release of the Prologue and chapters one & two – for a combined price of $14.99 (European prices yet to be confirmed). No details have yet been announced regarding future episodes, but free downloadable costumes will be made available for the game every week, inspired by other popular gaming titles.
