Benq GL2450 Review

by on September 14, 2014

Not so long ago, I took a look at the Benq GW2265 monitor, a 22 inch, flicker-free LED screen that was so good, I actually made it my main monitor going forward. The truth is, much of what I said can be repeated about the GL2450, though it’s more of a budget model, with features missing that may be a deal-breaker for the astute gamer out there.

First of all, the 24 inch screen looks great, with the blacks looking pretty nice in even the darker games out there. The Benq is a glossy number to look at, which doesn’t appear to attrack too much in the way of dust, and fingerprints are only going to be an issue if you can’t stop fondling your shiny piece of new tech.

Benq side-onIt’s pretty much just as adjustable as the GL2265 (with very little wobble, if any), but not as well suited for gaming on, purely down to the fact it doesn’t have any HDMI connections. Instead, we’ve got a DVI and a VGA connector (VGA cable included, for what that’s worth), which just isn’t going to cut it these days unless you’re willing to faff around with adapters and whatnot, and even then, you’re not going to get digital audio via the DVI cable, but then, there aren’t any built-in speakers on this unit anyway.

That said, as with most Benq monitors, the GL2450 is incredibly easy to set up, with a base unit connecting to a neck, which in turn connects to the monitor itself. The image quality is especially good for the price (shop around, I bet you can find it for sub £100, or near as dammit), and you’ll be hard pressed to find a cheaper 24 inch monitor.

It’s a shame there’s no HDMI, but this is a bare-bones monitor for £100 that hosts a large screen. Whether you mind the lack of digital video/audio is up to you, but at the price, this is still a bargain.
