Nowgamer.com have reported that the Xbox One control pad itself will require its own firmware update before gamers will be able to use the new headset adapter. The adapter will launch next week, and allow players to use any headset that they wish with their Xbox One console, through a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Microsoft have confirmed that Xbox One owners will need to first update their console with the new firmware update and then plug their pad into the console with the USB cable provided, which will then update the pad with its own new firmware update. It is a small update apparently, so shouldn’t slow you down too much, and the adapter will retail at around £19.99 in the UK.
It is good that Xbox One owners will finally be able to plug in any headset of their choosing to their machine, but it is a shame that they have to shell out more money for the privilege. At least the headset that was provided with the console for free was better than the simple earpiece that PS4 buyers were treated to.
