The Chikyuu Boueigun series is one of my favorites of all time, the perfect blend of Japanese b-movie madness and reasonably gritty action shooting, all done with a healthy dose of comedy. Well, we interpret it as comedy, the poor Japanese may well be genuinely terrified at the prospect of being killed by giant ants. Anyway, I digress.
Earth Defense Force, as we know it over on this side of the world, has consistently delivered super fun times – and are about to do it again with Earth Defense Force 2025, a sequel set a curious eight years after the still-glorious 2017. Best of all, OG devco Sandlot are back in charge.
Released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2014, this looks like being the perfect post-New Year treat for gamers desperate to kick some ant ass. And just as the recent Vita version introduced some new ways to kit out your EDF soldiers, 2025 introduces the Fencer, a mighty new exo skeleton that looks set to do some real damage to those pesky bugs.
Check out the bonkers trailer below. I am loving the return to obviously Japanese roots after the sterling but westernised fourth game, and cannot wait to try the ‘Lot’s return to the fore!
