New Dark Souls II Screenshots Show Variety

When you flick through this latest batch of Dark Souls II screenshots there’s a surprising amount of colour.

Not that Dark Souls was a drab game, the forests leading to Sen’s Fortress were rather lovely, more that it was constantly aggressive. A few of these Dark Souls II scenes look somewhat pleasant in comparison.

Oh don’t worry, it’s not gone soft. This latest batch of Dark Souls II screenshots has some truly disturbing images too, from hulking bosses and shambling corpses, to the sickening red aura of an invading player, all the Dark Souls staples are accounted for.

Yet it’s that forest that I find my eyes lingering on. That and the bright moon, they’re images that paint Dark Souls II as having a range of emotions which is reassuring. Dark Souls ability to judge moments of calm and surges of calamity is one of its greatest strengths, and it will be one of the hardest elements for Dark Souls II to recapture.
