If like me you owned the original Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (I still do) and were wondering why Nintendo are bothering to HD-ify what most of us fans regard as being one of the loveliest looking Nintendo games ever, then I suggest you read on, and prepare to be delighted that they did.
Celda, as it was crassly referred to, was a bloody lovely looking game. But as you can see from this rather lovely comparison video from GameXplain, Ninty have really gone to town on the remake. For starters everything is in 1080p widescreen. Colours are more vivid, beautiful new lighting effects have been added, and textures have been given an overhaul. There is stunning use of shadows and improved draw distances.
Much like Capcom’s brilliant Okami HD, Wind Waker HD proves that you can improve on what were regarded as being groundbreakingly impressive cel-shaded visuals. This video alone demonstrates how something I was blown away by back in the day on the Gamecube now looks positively prehistoric. Needless to say, the release date cannot come soon enough, and this looks like a nailed-on must-buy for you Wii U owners out there.
