When switching on a gaming system, occasions where we’re greeted with a prompt to download/install an update can be both blessings and curses. Sometimes you’ll end up with a shiny new user interface; other times, you’ll end up with an update that breaks everything.
Well, today we’re happy because Sony have updated the PlayStation Vita to 2.60 and have added some very useful features indeed. As seen via Polygon, this new update adds the following:
- A PlayStation Plus icon has been added to each game’s LiveArea screen, allowing subscribers to download/upload game saves to their cloud storage, both manually and automatically.
- Media content from a connected PC or PlayStation 3 can now be played on the Vita.
- Holding the PlayStation button for a few seconds will bring up an improved menu that allows Vita owners to quickly access options to turn Airplane Mode, Wifi and Bluetooth on and off.
- The appearance of the home screen’s Bubbles has been improved.
Personally, this update is worth it for the cloud saves alone. Firmware 2.60 is available right now.
