Patrick Plourde, Far Cry 3’s creative director, announced Ubisoft Montreal’s newest project at GDC Europe; Child of Light.
Thanks to Polygon’s report on the panel, we’ve learned that Child of Light has been inspired by old Square JRPGs such as the Final Fantasy series and is being built with the Ubi-Art Framework engine, which the latest Rayman titles used. Allowing the Plourde led team to bring this story of a young girl’s journey to life, as if it were a painting, Ubi-Art Framework is said to be integral to the studio’s vision.
This downloadable game will feature gameplay that Plourde described as a mix of Limbo and Final Fantasy VI. However, other than those few nuggets, information on Child of Light is being reserved for an official announcement.
Plourde went on to explain that making a smaller project at the massive Ubisoft is a liberating experience as the developer is dealing straight with the customer, in the digital space.
As soon as we hear anymore on Child of Light, we’ll be sure to let you know.
