Team17 announced the latest addition to their long-running series today, Worms 3. Tentatively scheduled for a Q3 2013 release, the game is so far only confirmed for iOS, although an Android version hasn’t been ruled out. Worms 3 promises new graphics, weapons and environments and aims to emulate the success of previous titles in the series, such as the much-loved Worms 2: Armageddon.
The game will feature 27 single player mission, online play, with ranked matches and leaderboards and local pass-and-play multiplayer for up to 4 players. Some fresh new mechanics have also been added including strategic playing cards which can alter the start and end of turns and the new class system which divides the slippery, little commandos into Heavy, Scientist, Scout and classic Soldier, each with its own unique skill and ability. Some of the new weapons confirmed are Nora’s Virus, Black Hole Grenade and Canned Heat, which will join the old favourites such as the Old Lady and the Homing Pigeon.
Team17 have also incorporated Apple’s Airplay feature which allows gamers with an AppleTV stream the action to the large screen, a perfect feature for the local multiplayer. Add to this achievements, a streamlined UI and a choice of control styles this could be the return to Worms glory we’ve all been waiting for.
