Now I’m going to preface this by admitting that I’ve never actually seen the show, but the love and adoration in which close friends and colleagues talk about Firefly…well, it’s impressive, to say the least.
At San Diego Comic Con 2013, it has been announced that Firefly will be coming back as a social, online role-playing game that will (initially) be released for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
Polygon have some quotes from developer QMXi and Spark Plug Games, but apparently the player will become a ship captain, which means they’ll have to hire a crew, lead missions, and trade with other players. Note that the game is called Firefly Online. Cross-platform, cross-device functionality is on the cards, too.
Andy Gore, CEO of QMXi and Quantum Mechanix Inc. said:
At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are. It has always been our mission to bring the Verse to life for our customers in every way possible. The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures — well, that’s just too shiny for words.
