Steam Trading Cards are a new addition to Steam games. Found when playing games, and through trading with other users, Trading Cards allow you to expand your Steam profile.
The idea, as explained on Steam’s webpage, is that after accruing a game’s full set of cards you can craft the set into a badge. The badges then create more tangible awards, such as profile wallpapers, exclusive emoticons, and even discount vouchers.
So how do you collect the cards? Well it wouldn’t be an apt name if some sort of trading wasn’t involved, would it? Turns out you can only find half of a set when you’re playing the game, these drop at random during play and yes, you can find doubles.
Then you need to go out into the wilds of Steam to try and find people with whom to trade cards in order to find the other half of the set. The cards you can find are randomly generated, so expect to be searching for a while.
It’s an interesting system, and a great way for Steam to break their users into the social side of Steam.
So which games support Trading Cards? Well just for you, the list can be found here. Enjoy your new addiction, the update is live now.
