In the wake of their E3 press conference Sony have uploaded an amusing parody video showing ‘how to lend games on PS4’, but eagle eyes viewers will noticed that the small print reads ‘PS4 multi-player online access requires PSN account & PS Plus subscription’.
Sony took the time, on stage, to reveal that the PS4 does not feature any console-wide DRM, and that Playstation Plus subscriptions would carry over from Playstation 3 to Playstation 4. This caused an extremely positive reaction in the crowd, but it appears that they potentially glossed over a significant change to their online strategy.
Well to be fair at this point many would question why you wouldn’t have a Playstation Plus account if you own a PS3 and/or Playstation Vita, but it’s a notable change all the same.
If I’m reading this small print correctly then Playstation 4 will be adopting an Xbox Live style system with an obligatory subscription required to play games online. Hopefully this can be clarified sooner rather than later.
