Forever bucking trends, CD Projekt Red are planning on making all downloadable content for The Witcher 3 available for free. On PC, at least.
Studio founder Marcin Iwinski spoke with Rock, Paper, Shotgun about their plan to allow PC players access to DLC at no extra cost. He also said that they’re looking into something similar for Xbox One and PlayStation 4:
“It’s too early to talk specifics, but definitely all the DLCs and updates will be free. Of course, we’ll see what the platform holders will allow, what we can do for free [on next-gen consoles]. I mean, there are different business models on consoles. From our standpoint, we’ll definitely do everything we can to deliver the same experience across all platforms.”
Iwinski said that although CD Projekt Red are anti-DRM, they want to bring the game to as many platforms as possible to ensure everyone can play it – and that includes the Xbone.
Once the game is released next year, PC players will be able to download a DRM free version from GOG.com, where Iwinski said, the developer has control.
