Nintendo Direct Recap – Sonic Lost World, New Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3

An important Nintendo Direct for the company was introduced by Satoru Iwata. He said that a future Nintendo Direct will also focus on Wii U titles, nearer to E3.

The first game Iwata announced was from Sega. The next game in the Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games series will see the plumber and blue blur head down the slopes in Sochi, Russia. Both the Game Pad and Wiimote will be utilised in different events. He stated that some of the mini-games won’t be based on realism

Nintendo has also entered into a worldwide partnership with Sega. Sonic Lost World will be an exclusive title on Wii U and 3DS. More news will be revealed on this game in the next Nintendo Direct. Iwata also announced that some Game Gear titles will be available to 3DS owners on the eShop.

The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will be coming to 3DS on May 30 and cost $5.99 each. For the first three weeks at launch, games will be available at a discount of $4.99.

Wario’s coming to Wii U in Game & Wario as you know. Some of the ways that the Game Pad interacts with the game was shown off during the presentation. Coming June 23, it will cost $39.99 in the States.

Resident Evil Revelations on Wii U will use the Game Pad to view the map and use items in their inventory. Off TV play is also available – as is the Pro Controller.

New Super Luigi U DLC that’s coming to New Super Mario Bros. U will also players to use Luigi, two different coloured Toadstools and Nabbit. Nabbit is a character in Mario U that steals items from Mario in the in-game map. He can’t use any of the power ups available, but can’t take damage from enemies. The DLC pack will be available from eShop on June 20. The DLC will also be available to purchase on August 25 at retail – as a standalone title. The disc will cost $29.99 and the downloadable content will cost $19.99.

The Wonderful 101 is coming on September 15 and new details will be coming between now and launch. However, that’s all we got here.

Pikmin 3 was then brought up by Iwata. Olimer will not be the sole protagonist either. Alph, Brittany and Charlie are also characters that can be used by players. In Pikmin 3, the Game Pad is known at the Kop Pad. Pikmin and character location is available on a map. Characters can also be moved around the world by dragging them across the map on the Game Pad. The Pro Controller and Wiimote/Nunchuck combo are also both compatible with the game. Offscreen play was also announced – players also have the option to use the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo, using the Game Pad as a monitor. Pikmin 3 will be coming to North America on August 4.

Reggie Fils-Aime then came on screen and announced that E3 is “for the people”. Nintendo has partnered with Best Buy to showcase some unreleased games in US and Canada, around the time of E3.
