Capcom are billing Revelations HD as the Resident Evil that people really wanted, and after spending some time with the game, it’s easy to see why.
Harking back to the Resident Evil 4-style, but with a distinctly creepy, tense feeling, Revelations was a great game on Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system, but bringing into the HD era via Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Windows PC means that now, it looks great too. And that’s not intended as a sleight on the 3DS, it’s simply fact that it doesn’t output a HD resolution, and this new remastered HD edition looks gorgeous.
Of course, as you’ll see in the video below, the cut-scenes look amazing, though there are some rough textures still present, but the opening level on the Queen Zenobia ship are beautifully lit, and even though we know what’s coming (if you’ve played the 3DS version), you’ll still feel the tension that is created. But this new HD version comes with new story sections, changed up enemy positions and all sorts, along with the return of the online compatible Raid mode; which we show late on in the video, too.
So sit back, watch the opening of the game and some Raid mode, we think the footage speaks for itself. That said, we apologise for how often we call it gorgeous, but it really took us by surprise.
If you’ve any questions about the game (that we’re allowed to answer, of course) please feel free to drop them in the comment section below. Please also bare in mind that the footage is taken from an unfinished version of the game.
Resident Evil: Revelations HD will be released on May 24 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Windows PC.
