A development cycle full of hiccups means that even after a reboot of sorts in 2011, Doom 4’s release date is a bit away.
That’s according to sources close to Kotaku that claim development hasn’t produced anything up to the Doom standard and it’s now planned for next-generation consoles.
Bethesda’s vice president of marketing and public relations Pete Hines issued a statement to Kotaku, addressing some of the rumours about the fourth game in the series:
“An earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that Id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect. As a result, Id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the Doom 4 Id is making, we will let folks know.”
It also appears that all of id’s staff are hard at work on the next Doom game as, apparently, sales for 2011’s Rage weren’t what ZeniMax were hoping for and thus, they cancelled the sequel.
Will we ever see Doom 4? If we do, my guess is that it won’t be for quite some time.
