Crystal Dynamics Working with GK Films on Tomb Raider Movie

By now, everyone is well aware of the success that was the Tomb Raider reboot and Lara’s silverscreen career also looks set to get a shot in the arm. 

In an interview with Variety, Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher confirmed that the developer is working with GK Films to bring Tomb Raider back to cinemas, worldwide. GK Films aren’t some two-bit production company either, they’ve produced many recent hits such as Blood Diamond, The Town and the recent Academy Award winning Argo.

GK Films will be working from this year’s reboot and not referencing the previous games in the series, or the Angelina Jolie set of movies;

“It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films.”

It’s clever business to take this new Lara and place her back into films. The character of Lara Croft is still largely remembered by movie go-ers, allowing for instant name recognition. We’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out.
