We’re now only about a month away from the release of the highly-anticipated God of War: Ascension, and Sony Santa Monica have released a brand new behind-the-scenes vidoc to give us a sneak peak at the work that goes into bringing their version of ancient Greece to life.
Originally posted on the PlayStation Blog, the (almost) 7-minute video takes us into the “vo-mocap” studio (that’s voice-over and motion-capture), where we can see several of the key actors (including the always incredible Jennifer Hale, FemShep fans) hard at work.
From the initial stage work through to applying the captured footage to the game itself, the vidoc demonstrates just how much time and effort goes into those shiny, shiny cutscenes. Sony Santa Monica have been incredibly welcoming during the latter stages of Ascension’s development via their God of War: Ascension – Unchained series, and it’s nice to see a studio so willing to let their fans see the inner workings of their latest baby.
Just in case you didn’t already know, God of War: Ascension is a prequel (and not the first) to Sony’s exclusive, God-slaying franchise, and sees what drove tattooed slap-head Kratos to go all deicidal in the first place. It is also the first entry in the series to include a multiplayer element – which is actually surprisingly good. You can see it in action in our Let’s Play vidcast – though try not to laugh at poor Martin getting beaten up.

God of War: Ascension is scheduled for global release on PlayStation 3 on March 15.
