Sony’s CEO gives a brief assessment on their latest portable’s success.
You are probably aware that the Consumer Electronics Show is going on right now in America. After Sony’s CES Press Briefing Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Corporation answered a few questions.
As reported by GameSpot (taken from the original Wall Street Journal interview), among those questions, Hirai was asked how the PlayStation Vita was faring in the marketplace:
“I would say it’s on the low end of what we expected,”
After which, he noted that it would take 5-10 years before he could accurately say whether it was successful or not. Similar questions were raised about the PlayStation 3, which after over 70 million units shipped, he now deems as a success.
Selling 2.2 million units worldwide, the PlayStation Vita has quite a lot of ground to catch up on – Especially as Nintendo revealed in September that the 3DS has sold 22 million units worldwide since it’s release in March 2011.
