PC Shooter Defiance Gets its First Beta Event on January 18Trion Worlds have announced that the first beta event for their upcoming PC shooter Defiance will run from January 18 – 21.Advanced Mission Beta 1 will take the player to a futuristic San Francisco and cast them in the role of an “Ark Hunter”, genetically engineered operatives searching for alien technology to sell to the highest bidder.

Defiance is scheduled for release to tie-in with the TV show of the same name due on SyFy later this year. The show is set in a future where an alien collective known as the Votans have started a war with humanity over refused asylum (their own star system was destroyed when the sun went nova). In the ensuing struggle, the Votans’ advanced terraforming technology inadvertently altered the geology and ecosystems of Planet Earth, rendering vast areas uninhabitable to both the humans and aliens.

Although now in a ceasefire, tensions are high between the former enemies as the major governments of each side have fractured into splinter groups all concerned with their own agendas and vendettas. Valuable alien technology still litters the scorched Earth, attracting Ark Hunters – treasure-seeking mercenaries who risk their lives to salvage and sell it.

Advanced Mission Beta 1 will grant players access to the full tutorial, the “expansive” terraformed terrain of Mt. Tam, the “Waterfront” multiplayer map, the Shadow War open-world multiplayer mode and several massive cooperative boss battles. Defiance will be available on Windows PC in April 2013.
