Gearbox Software, developers behind the exceptionally mental but absolutely brilliant Borderlands 2, have announced via their Twitter feed that the third major slice of DLC, entitled Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, will be available to download on January 15th as part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass.
Anyone who has played the game (and if you haven’t, you should) will likely agree that several of the more memorable quests were issued by Sir Hammerlock, dapper gent, infamous game hunter and discoverer of the wild “Bonerfart”. The new DLC will follow the example of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (an add-on for the original Borderlands) and transplant the action to a whole new area with an entirely new aesthetic. Here’s a handful of screenshots to highlight the fresh look:
The swampy jungle continent of Aegrus will serve as the new setting, as Sir Hammerlock sets your fearless Vault Hunter challenges involving the hunting and killing of extremely rare and dangerous animals. Not only that, but it would appear that you’ll also have to deal with a tribe of cannibalistic Handsome Jack clones at the same time. We’ve already shown you the new guns and customisation items that will be available – now we’re just hoping that the new beasties are as inventive and frightening as the bullymong or spider-ant.
A change of scenery will be a welcome boon for most people still playing Borderlands 2, and if Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt can reach the incredibly high bar already set by Captain Scarlett’s Pirate’s Booty and Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage we’ll be ridiculously happy. Here’s the short trailer posted by Gearbox earlier today:
Borderlands 2 is available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
