Assassin’s Creed Movie Could be Sneaking into Theatres in 2013

Assassin's Creed Movie Could be Sneaking into Theatres in 2013We already know what you’re going to say.

But come on, not all videogame to movie adaptations are awful. There was that Mario one with Bob Hoskins, that was grand; and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale wasn’t that much different to The Lord of the Rings, when you get right down to it.

Okay, okay, they were completely awful. But Denis Hopper de-evolving into a squidgy dinosaur thing and Jason Statham doing “fantasy” shouldn’t become the basis upon which we judge all game-to-movie crossovers– Hitman, you say? Starring Timothy Olyphant? Bugger, you’ve got us there.

But anyway, the past is the past, and if Ubisoft have anything to do with our future, we’ll be getting an Assassin’s Creed movie sooner than you think. Rumours of a “fast-tracked” adaptation have been around for a while, as have largely unfounded (read: probably total poppycock) whispers that currently-massive Michael Fassbender would be involved. Now it would appear that Ubisoft’s chief sales and marketing officer, Geoffroy Sardin, let slip to GI.biz that a movie may well be a very real possibility, saying: “Another thing that is very important for the lifecycle is the transmedia offer. All the figurines, the books, the publishing, and we have a movie in the next coming year. So it’s not only about games, we are talking about a global brand.”

If handled correctly, an AC movie would have an abundance of lore and backstory from which to draw its inspiration, but we can’t help worrying about that whole “fast-tracked” thing.

But what do you think? Will it be a hit or a miss and, more importantly, will you rush out to see it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box!
